Today we started off the day at Yad LeKashish- a program that
provides work for elderly immigrants. We learned about the importance of the
small community there and toured the facility. We then visited the gift shop
and many of us bought beautiful pieces of artwork created by the members of Yad
LeKashish, which was truly a mitzvah. We then continued to a more solemn time
in Jewish history. We visited Yad Vashem-- the world renowned Holocaust museum.
Throughout the museum we were overtaken by sadness. We continued our
learning of the destruction of our people. We even saw cattle cars, bunks, and
other disturbing and authentic artifacts from the Holocaust. We also visited
the Children’s Memorial, which honors the one and a half million Jewish
children who were murdered in the Shoah. It was hauntingly beautiful to see all
the candles burning for the innocent children whose lives were cut short by the
Nazi regime.
While the morning was somber and depressing, a surprise visit from Rabbi Rozen cheered us up. We got to catch up for a while, and then headed to lunch at the museum cafeteria.

We continued on to the national memorial at Har Herzl. We visited the graves of all the soldiers who died during military service. We even got to pay our respects at the graves of Yitzchak and Leah Rabin, and Theodore Herzl.
After a few hours of rest at our hostel, we proceeded to Molly’s
grandparent’s house for a barbeque dinner. We played trivia, socialized, and
overall had a blast! After a delicious meal,
we piled back onto the bus, headed back to the youth hostel, and packed up for
an early morning drive to Ein Gedi and the Dead Sea. We are so excited for the
continuation of the trip.
See you all (too) soon,
-
