On our first full
day in the land of Israel, we started the day with an inspiring tefillah in the
Beit Knesset at the hotel we were staying at in Nir Etzion. Next, we had a
delicious breakfast, packed our things, and got on the bus to go to the Atlit Detention
Camp. Atlit, originally a farm in the Ottoman period, was a detention camp for illegal
Jewish immigrants in the time of the British Mandate.
After taking a tour of Atlit, we drove to the holy city of Tzfat. There
we walked around the beautiful city touring some old synagogues and visited
Roni’s uncle, an artist who works with wood to create items important to Judaism.
We then went to our hotel in the Golan, dropped our bags off, and attended
a local Erev Yom Ha’zikaron ceremony where
we sang songs and stood in silence for the siren. And now we are off to sleep…
